Spiaggia dei Conigli in Lampedusa requires booking in 2026, with limited shifts, QR access and strict reserve rules. Here is how to plan it properly.
Rabbit Beach is not a normal beach.
That is the first thing to understand.
Spiaggia dei Conigli, on the island of Lampedusa, is often described as one of the most beautiful beaches in Italy, sometimes in Europe, sometimes in the world. Those rankings are not the interesting part. The interesting part is that the beach is fragile enough to require rules, and beautiful enough that people keep trying to treat those rules as an inconvenience.
In 2026, access is regulated.
Legambiente's reserve information states that from 8 June to 18 October 2026, access to Spiaggia dei Conigli is limited and requires mandatory booking through the official booking platform.
That should not discourage you.
It should change how you plan.
How the booking works
The official Spiaggia dei Conigli information lists two daily visiting shifts: 8:30 to 13:30 and 14:30 to 19:30. Visitors must leave the beach and exit the reserve at the end of their shift. Online places are limited, and the official page states that 435 online places are bookable per shift, with additional same-day access via an entrance list at the reserve.
Each reservation can include a maximum of two people, and visitors can book only one shift per day and one visit per week. Online-booked visitors must enter the reserve by 9:30 for the morning shift or by 15:30 for the afternoon shift, otherwise the reservation is forfeited.
This is the detail that ruins careless plans.
Having a booking is not enough if you arrive late.
Morning or afternoon?
The morning shift is usually better for travellers who want cooler conditions, clearer planning and the psychological comfort of having the day secured early.
The afternoon shift can be beautiful, especially with softer light later in the day, but it requires more discipline. You must still enter by the required time, and Lampedusa's heat, transport and beach-day laziness can all interfere.
Do not choose a shift based only on romance.
Choose it based on how your group actually behaves.
A couple can manage an afternoon plan. A family with small children may be better in the morning. A group that is always late should not gamble with a protected beach reservation.
The walk matters
Rabbit Beach is not a beach-club drop-off.
Legambiente's visitor guidance describes the route as a path of about 800 metres and recommends footwear suitable for rocky and slippery ground. The reserve also notes that access is not recommended for visitors with mobility or balance difficulties, heart or respiratory problems, or certain allergy risks, and there are no lifeguards, medical assistance, refreshment points, toilets or water points inside the reserve.
That last sentence is important.
This is not a serviced beach. Do not arrive expecting comfort infrastructure.
Bring water, proper shoes, sun protection and less stuff than you think. Heavy beach equipment is a mistake. So is treating the path as a casual stroll in flip-flops.
The beach is protected for a reason.
Who should visit Rabbit Beach?
Rabbit Beach is worth visiting if you understand what it is.
It is for travellers who are willing to book in advance, walk in, respect the rules, stay within the permitted areas and accept that the beach's beauty depends on limits. It is not for visitors who want loud music, umbrellas everywhere, beach-bar service or a full day without interruption.
The official reserve rules make clear that visitors must remain in permitted areas, respect time slots, follow marked trails and treat the reserve as a natural environment rather than a bathing establishment.
That is the correct attitude.
Rabbit Beach is not there to serve your holiday.
You are being allowed to enter it.
Where to stay in Lampedusa
Lampedusa is small, but the logistics still matter.
Staying in town gives easier access to restaurants, services, port life and transport. Staying closer to the south or west can make certain beach days simpler, but you should still plan movements carefully. Do not choose accommodation only by distance to Rabbit Beach. You will not be able to use it every day freely, and the booking rules limit repeat visits.
That is a good thing.
Lampedusa should not be reduced to one beach, even if that beach is the image that brought you there.
What to avoid
Avoid waiting until you arrive on the island to understand the booking system.
Avoid old blog posts with outdated numbers.
Avoid late arrival.
Avoid bringing too much.
Avoid assuming the same beach rules apply as in Sardinia, Capri or the Amalfi Coast.
Most of all, avoid treating regulation as an annoyance. Without regulation, Rabbit Beach would be damaged by the very demand created by its beauty.
