Naples Airport Closure in November 2026: How to Reach Naples, Capri and the Amalfi Coast

The Naples airport closure covers November 2026. Which flights move to Salerno, how the Rome rail route works and which November timetables are still missing.

Naples International Airport is set to close to all flights in November 2026 for runway works.

The month was not chosen at random. In July 2025, Italy's civil aviation authority, ENAC, announced that the works would be carried out in November 2026, keeping the days of total closure inside the period with the least traffic of the year.

For anyone flying in that month, the question is how the trip changes, not whether. A November stay in Naples, Sorrento, Capri or on the Amalfi Coast now starts either at Salerno airport or in Rome, and the better gateway depends on the airline, the base and the hour the flight lands.

Quick answer

The closure: Naples Capodichino will be closed to flights in November 2026. flydubai's notice gives the dates as 1 to 30 November.

Where the flights go: some airlines move to Salerno Costa d'Amalfi airport. ITA Airways operates its Milan Linate flights from Salerno and replaces its Rome flights with a bus.

From Salerno airport: the Salerno Airlink bus reaches Salerno railway station in about 30 minutes for eight euros. Italo's trains then take 36 minutes to Naples.

Via Rome: the Leonardo Express links Fiumicino and Roma Termini in 32 minutes, and Italo's average from Rome to Naples is 55 minutes.

Still missing: the November timetables for the Salerno Airlink, the Amalfi Coast buses and the Sorrento to Capri sailings.

What to do now: read your airline's notice for the booking, then choose the gateway by where you are staying, not by the fare.

What has been confirmed so far

The works are not a surprise. ENAC first recorded the decision to move the start of the runway works to November 2026 in July 2025, and the timing has held since.

The exact days come from the airlines. The flydubai operational update moves its daily Dubai service to Salerno from 1 to 30 November 2026, citing planned maintenance works at Naples. ITA Airways refers to the planned closure of the Naples runways for the month of November.

The Italian aviation press has added detail that no official notice has yet confirmed. On 21 September 2026, the specialist site The Flight Club reported that flights at Capodichino would stop from 1 November to 30 November. It also quoted the airport operator's chief executive as saying the works are planned to take 24 days, with six more allowed for rain, and that the airport could reopen earlier.

Until the airport publishes its own passenger notice, treat 1 to 30 November as the working assumption. Treat any earlier reopening as a bonus, never as the plan.

Which airlines are moving to Salerno

Two moves are on the airlines' own pages. ITA Airways will operate its Milan Linate flights from Salerno, while its Naples flights to and from Rome Fiumicino are replaced by a bus service. The stops, times and journey time of that bus have not been published.

flydubai will fly daily between Dubai International and Salerno Costa d'Amalfi throughout the closure, which matters for anyone connecting through Dubai from Australia or Asia.

According to The Flight Club, seven more airlines are moving to Salerno: easyJet from Milan Malpensa, Vueling from Barcelona, Transavia from Amsterdam and Paris Orly, Eurowings from Düsseldorf and Stuttgart, Iberia from Madrid, Neos from Sharm el-Sheikh and Luxair from Luxembourg. The same report noted that several large airlines serving Naples were missing from that list. Treat that list as a lead until your own airline confirms the change.

If a November booking still shows Naples, contact the airline and ask three things: whether the flight now uses Salerno, whether it has moved to another day or airport, and what the airline offers if neither works for the trip.

Salerno airport to the trains and the coast

Salerno's airport is not in the city. Its official name, Aeroporto Internazionale Salerno-Pontecagnano Costa d'Amalfi e del Cilento, places it at Pontecagnano, and the first job on arrival is reaching Salerno railway station.

The Salerno Airlink bus run by Busitalia does that in about 30 minutes for eight euros, with departures timed around the flight schedule. Its published timetable runs to 31 October 2026, and the November version has not appeared yet.

From Salerno station, Naples is close. Italo gives a journey time of 36 minutes between Naples and Salerno. Add the bus, the wait for a connection and the walk at each end before promising anyone a pick-up time in Naples.

For the Amalfi Coast, SITA Sud lists a bus from the airport to the coast, serving Vietri, Cetara, Maiori, Minori, Amalfi, Conca dei Marini, Furore and Agerola for ten euros. Its published frequencies ran until 6 September 2026, and no November service has been announced.

The same Flight Club report said the Campania region is studying extra shuttles to Salerno station and more trains to Naples. Nothing has appeared on official channels yet.

The Rome alternative

For most travellers from the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia, the simplest November plan skips Salerno altogether. Fly into Rome Fiumicino, take the train into the city and continue south by high-speed rail.

The Leonardo Express runs nonstop from Fiumicino to Roma Termini in 32 minutes, every 15 minutes, with tickets from fourteen euros. From Termini, Italo gives an average of 55 minutes to Naples across 31 daily trains, and 1 hour 39 minutes to Salerno on 10 daily trains.

The Rome route has two advantages in November. It does not depend on which airlines moved to Salerno, and every leg already runs on a published, frequent timetable. The price is a longer day, with a change at Termini.

Do not count on a direct high-speed train from Fiumicino airport to Naples. Plan on the Leonardo Express to Termini and a change there. If Rome becomes the first night rather than a transit stop, start with our Rome travel guide.

Which gateway suits which base

Naples and Pompeii. Rome and the train is the default. Salerno works too if your airline flies there, with the Airlink bus and a 36-minute train north.

Sorrento. Reach Naples first, then take the Circumvesuviana. EAV, which runs the line, announced in September a new timetable from 17 October 2026 with 68 daily runs between Naples and Sorrento, one every 30 minutes. The timetables are on its rail timetable page.

Capri. Naples is the port that works all month. SNAV states that its Naples to Capri sailings run daily all year, with a 50-minute crossing. The Sorrento to Capri timetables published by SNAV and NLG stop on 3 November, so that shorter crossing cannot yet be planned for later dates.

The Amalfi Coast. Salerno is the nearer gateway. From Naples, the SITA Sud Naples to Amalfi bus has a timetable listed as valid until 31 December 2026, with four departures between 09:00 and 17:30 and a journey of about two hours. Travelmar describes its Salerno ferries as available all year, but its current timetable does not say which sailings continue into November. If you are still deciding between the towns, our guide to where to stay on the Amalfi Coast helps choose the base.

What is not published yet

Several pieces of the November plan are still missing, and they decide the last leg of most trips.

Still to come are the November timetable for the Salerno Airlink, the stops and times of the ITA Airways bus, the SITA Sud winter timetables for the Amalfi Coast and Sorrento lines, whose current versions end on 1 November, the Sorrento to Capri sailings after 3 November, and any official shuttle or extra train for the closure.

Check those pages again from 26 October, before paying for anything that cannot be changed.

What not to assume

Do not assume every Naples flight has simply moved to Salerno. Only some airlines have said so, and others may cancel, reroute or change dates.

Do not assume the restrictions end on 30 November for every flight. In November 2025, ENAC described an earlier proposal from the airport operator that combined the full closure with a longer period of partial closure, and stated that the closure days were for the authority to set. Nothing published since confirms or rules out restrictions beyond November, so check any flight in early December against the airline's own notice.

Do not assume Salerno means the Amalfi Coast. The airport sits outside the city, the coastal bus has no published November service, and an evening landing can leave the last leg to a taxi. Book the first night where the connection is certain.
